A proposed FIFA World Cup stadium has been constructed in Al Khor. The stadium, which has a capacity of 60,000, had its construction contract awarded in 2015 and is expected to open at the end of 2019.

Al Thumama Stadium

Al Thumama Stadium is located 12 km south of Doha’s skyline and seafront. The stadium features a smooth and simple outer design covered with white cladding. It has a capacity of 40,000 spectators and is one of the eight stadiums built for the Qatar World Cup.

The stadium officially opened on October 22, 2021. Notably, it is the first stadium in Qatar to be primarily designed by local architects. Its design is inspired by the gahfiya, a traditional Arabic headdress.
