The 2025-26 La Liga EA Sports season—the 95th edition of Spain’s top-flight league Primera Division—kicks off on the weekend of 17 August 2025 and will run through 24 May 2026, concluding the campaign just before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America begins. Sponsored by EA Sports, the competition continues under its rebranded name and logo, delivering an enhanced visual and broadcast experience aligned with the gaming platform’s aesthetics.
Barcelona enters as the defending champion after clinching their 28th title in the 2024‑25 season, along with victories in the Supercopa and Copa del Rey. Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso takes over as manager of Real Madrid, succeeding Carlo Ancelotti, and Matías Almeyda becomes the new coach at Sevilla, among other major coaching shifts across the league.
Newly promoted clubs Levante, Elche, and Real Oviedo join the 20-team lineup, replacing Valladolid, Las Palmas, and Leganés, who were relegated at the end of the last season.
Fans can expect another tightly contested campaign featuring the free asymmetric fixture calendar—a format introduced in 2019–20, which optimises match scheduling around European competitions, venue availability, holidays, and public events to maximise attendance and broadcast viewership.
This season will include 38 matchdays, three mid-week rounds, and five FIFA international breaks, with a traditional Christmas hiatus between 21 December 2025 and early January 2026.
