The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the biggest edition ever, with 48 teams competing for the ultimate prize in soccer. It will be hosted across three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico, making it a major event for North American fans.
As of mid‑October 2025, a total of 28 teams have already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This includes the three host nations— the United States, Canada, and Mexico—who automatically qualify.
From Asia (AFC), seven teams have secured their places: Japan, Iran, Australia, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Qatar and Jordan. Oceania (OFC) is represented by New Zealand, which earned its spot by winning the final playoff.
In South America (CONMEBOL), Argentina qualified back in March, while Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Colombia, and Paraguay have officially qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The remaining 20 spots in the expanded 48-team tournament are still up for grabs. European (UEFA) and African (CAF) qualifiers are ongoing and will finish later this year, while additional CONCACAF, AFC, and CONMEBOL slots will be decided by October or in early 2026.
A final round of intercontinental playoffs will occur in March 2026 to fill the last two places.
