The 1930 FIFA World Cup was the starter of FIFA World Cup, the world championship for men national association football teams. It took place in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo from 13 July 1930 to 30 July 1930.
Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Uruguay, and Sweden all expressed an interest to host the first ever 1930 FIFA World Cup but the Uruguayans alone were prepared to pay all hotel expenses and travel expenses as well as build a new stadium.
Thirteen teams (seven from South America, four from Europe, and two from North America) signed up for the tournament. But two months before the start, there was still no European entrant because of the difficulty of traveling to South America.
