The 1930 FIFA World Cup was the start of the FIFA World Cup, the world championship for men’s national association football teams. It took place in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo from 13 July 1930 to 30 July 1930.
Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Uruguay, and Sweden all showed interest in hosting the inaugural 1930 FIFA World Cup. However, Uruguay stood out by offering to cover all hotel and travel expenses and even constructing a new stadium.
Thirteen teams (seven from South America, four from Europe, and two from North America) signed up for the tournament.
However, two months before the start, there was still no European entrant due to the difficulty of travelling to South America.
