Real Madrid started in aggressive fashion, and both Ronaldo and Dani Carvajal enjoyed decent chances in the first half against their Brazilian opponent Gremio.

Geromel headed a corner clear only as far as Carvajal, who volleyed it back towards goal, but the Gremio captain was able to get a foot to it which results in the first half of 0-0.

Ronaldo finally broke the deadlock early in the second half when he drew a foul just outside of the Gremio penalty box after a rash challenge by Gremio’s Jailson.

Ronaldo took the curling free-kick on 53 minutes, which split between the wall and sneaked into the bottom left. Now Real was leading by 1-0 and it remains the same until the final whistle.
