Lionel Messi's Argentina Away Kit for 2026 FIFA World Cup Revealed – 2006 Classic Returns with Third Star

Adidas has officially unveiled Argentina’s away kit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and it is a direct homage to the iconic 2006 version, with one major upgrade of the addition of the third star above the crest to celebrate the 2022 World Cup triumph in Qatar.

The kit was revealed today through Lionel Messi’s official Instagram account and Adidas’ global channels, instantly becoming one of the most talked-about football jerseys of the year.

The new away kit closely mirrors the beloved 2006 away shirt that Argentina wore during the Germany World Cup:

  • Base Colour: Clean, elegant white with subtle light-blue accents.
  • Stripes: The classic black shoulder stripes from the 2006 design have been retained but given a slightly more modern, thinner cut.
  • Third Star: A prominent gold third star has been added above the AFA crest — a permanent reminder of the 2022 victory.
  • Collar & Cuffs: The same ribbed crew neck and cuff style from 2006 has been brought back for a nostalgic feel.
  • Badge: The current AFA crest is used, but the overall look feels like a respectful evolution of the 2006 classic.

Why the 2006 Throwback?

The 2006 away kit is still considered one of Argentina’s most beautiful and iconic shirts. Many fans and players, including Messi himself, have repeatedly expressed their love for that design.

Adidas listened to the fans and decided to bring it back for the 2026 tournament — this time with the third star that was missing in 2006.

This is the first time Argentina will wear a white away kit with the third star in a World Cup.

When Will Argentina Wear the New Away Kit?

According to Adidas and the Argentine Football Association (AFA), the new away kit will be used during the 2026 World Cup group stage and knockout matches, where the home kit (traditional sky blue and white stripes) cannot be worn due to colour clash.

Argentina’s group opponents and exact schedule are still to be confirmed after the final draw.
