Football in Mexico was first organised in the early 20th century by the European immigrant groups, The first match was played against Guatemala, where Mexico won by 3-2. After that, the series was played by international friendlies were played with Guatemala.

The Mexican team officially became the governing body of football in 1927. In 1930, they participated in the Summer Olympics, which marked their first international tournament. Unfortunately, Mexico lost to Spain in the round of 16 with a score of 1-7.
