Washington D.C., March 13, 2026 – President Donald Trump has proudly declared that the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the “greatest and safest sporting event in American history.”
In a post on his Truth Social account yesterday, the President wrote:
“The United States of America looks very much forward to hosting the FIFA World Cup. Ticket sales are ‘through the roof!’ It will be the Greatest and Safest Sporting Event in American History. All Players, Officials, and Fans will be treated like the ‘STARS’ that they are!”
With the tournament now just three months away (opening match on June 11 in Mexico City), Trump’s message is aimed at building excitement and confidence among fans and participating countries. The 48-team, 104-match event will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico across 16 cities.
Trump has been talking a lot lately about security. After meeting FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the White House earlier this week, he assured everyone that the U.S. government is working closely with local police, the FBI, and Homeland Security to make sure everything runs smoothly and safely.
Many people welcomed the positive words, especially as ticket sales are already breaking records. For millions of fans planning to travel, hearing the President call it the “safest ever” feels reassuring.
At the same time, Trump’s comments also included a note about the Iran national team. He said they are “welcome” but suggested it might not be appropriate for them to attend “for their own life and safety” amid current tensions. FIFA has not commented on that part yet, and the focus remains on making the whole tournament a success for everyone.
