The 1958 FIFA World Cup was the sixth staging of the World Cup, the world championship for men national association football teams. This was held in Sweden from 8 June to 29 June 1958. Sweden is a Scandinavian nation with thousands of coastal islands and inland lakes, along with vast boreal forests and glaciated mountains.
Its principal cities, eastern capital Stockholm and southwestern Gothenburg and Malmö, are all coastal. Stockholm is built on 14 islands.
The tournament was won by Brazil, who beat Sweden 5–2 in the final. Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Sweden expressed interest in hosting the tournament.
