The Italian National Football Team is the men’s football team representing Italy. It has won the FIFA World Cup four times, in 1934, 1938, 1982, and 2006. This makes the team one of the most successful national teams in the history of the World Cup, ranking as the second-highest in terms of the number of tournaments won by any country. The Italian team, managed by the Italian Football Federation, is part of the UEFA Confederation, representing Europe. They also secured a win in the European Championship back in 1968.
The Italian national football team, introduced in 1910, has represented Italy in international football since its first match that same year. Part of UEFA, the team is managed by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). Known as Gli Azzurri, meaning “The Blues,” they wear the iconic Savoy blue. Luciano Spalletti is their current coach of the Italian Squad.
Italy is one of the most successful teams in World Cup history, holding the title four times and appearing in two other finals (1970 and 1994). In 2006, they faced France, led by Zinedine Zidane, in the final. The Italian National Football Team has made its mark in football history with their World Cup victories in 1934, 1938, 1982, and 2006, along with its impressive performances in other tournaments.
They defeated France 5–3 in a penalty shoot-out, where Zinedine Zidane played in the last match of his career. Italy is the first team to defend its previous World Cup Trophy. Due to World War II, the World Cup was not played, and Italy retained the title for a record of 16 years.

Italy will play eight qualifier matches, where the first match played against Norway in the 2026 FIFA World Cup UEFA Qualification in October. Germany’s 5-4 aggregate win over Italy in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinal was the last international match.

Italy National Football Team History

The Italian national football team entered international matches in the year 1910, but the team was formed in 1899, and they tried to create the best team on 30 April 1899. Unfortunately, they failed to do so, as they did not lose hope; we can see the best teams in the world are here.
The team, overseen by the Italian Football Federation, competes under the UEFA Confederation in Europe. Former Italian player Roberto Mancini leads as the head coach, with Giorgio Chiellini serving as the team captain.
The Football team was created in 1910 and contested its first official international match on 15 May 1910 against France by 6-2. In 1930, the team won two consecutive editions in the 1934 FIFA World Cup and the 1938 FIFA World Cup. The Stade de France is the home ground of the team. It was opened in 1998.
